The X-Ray drilling machine automatically optimises and drills the reference tooling holes of the bonded panels allowing optimised accuracy in the subsequent drilling and printing operations. The X-Ray Drill is able to compensate for the following errors during the manufacturing process:
- Alignment errors in printing both sides of each layer
- Alignment errors in the registration of the inner-layers
- Planar distortion of the inner-layers during the bonding process
This allows the “best-fit” of the drilling pattern to the bonded inner-layers.
The X-ray drill can also be used in tooling the registration holes of the inner-layers, optimising their position with the internal reference pads.
With a 160,000 rpm air-bearing spindle, dedicated tooling plate and automatic tooling change from a 336 position rotating drum, the machine can also be used as a stand alone drill machine with depth control.
The Stat-pack facility allows valuable analysis of the dimensional movement of materials during the manufacturing process. This enables statistical information to be fed back into the process to improve the material movement compensation factors.
